Dietary principles for rheumatic diseases

Chinese medicine believes that “medicine and food have the same origin”. For patients with rheumatic diseases, reasonable dietary adjustments based on conventional treatment can alleviate and improve the condition and maximize the therapeutic effect. So rheumatism patients in the diet are required to pay attention to what principles? 1. Diet should be comprehensive and nutritionally balanced: Generally speaking, except for gouty arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, there are not many contraindications in the diet of rheumatic patients. A rich and reasonable diet can enhance physical fitness, improve the ability to resist disease and promote recovery. 2. For those with active disease, a light diet is appropriate: when disease activity is manifested by fever, increased joint swelling and pain, etc., easily digestible and well-watered food should be chosen. Staple foods such as rice, steamed buns, etc. Vegetables such as cabbage, tomatoes, winter melon, loofah, cucumber, etc. Avoid spicy and stimulating foods, such as chili peppers, onions, etc. 3. For those who have been weak for a long time, it is appropriate to increase nourishing foods: if accompanied by weakness, anemia, low protein and other signs of deficiency, foods rich in protein and iron should be increased in appropriate amounts, such as lean pork, freshwater fish, soy products, dates, etc. You can also add Chinese herbal medicines with the effect of nourishing qi and blood, such as astragalus, yam, angelica, wolfberry, etc. to your diet. 4, eat less seafood and other hairy things: such as seawater fish, sea shrimp, shellfish, etc., so as not to cause allergic reactions, induce allergies, aggravate the disease, or induce gout attacks. 5, eat less greasy, fried food: choose low-fat or skim milk, stir-fry, less oil in soup, do not eat fatty meat, to prevent excessive production of ketone bodies in the body, causing imbalance of acid-base balance to stimulate the joints and aggravate the pain. 6, eat less sweet, salty food: to prevent high sugar food to help wet heat, aggravating the condition. Food with high salt content causes water retention, which is not conducive to removing dampness and can cause an increase in blood pressure. 7, eat more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C, B: such as cauliflower, bitter melon, collard greens, capers, pea shoots, rape, water radish, cabbage, tomatoes, soybeans, spinach, nuts, kiwi, dates, oranges, citrus, bananas, grapes, etc., can reduce swelling and pain, detoxify and dispel dampness and swelling. Identify the evidence and match the diet: according to the body “evidence” of yin and yang, cold and heat, deficiency and real, give different dietary formulas. Generally speaking, cold paralysis should be used pepper, dry ginger and other warm products, and avoid cold; damp paralysis should be used poria, coix and other drugs; hot paralysis should be used soybean sprouts, mung bean sprouts, loofah, winter melon and other medicinal foods, should not eat mutton and spicy stimulating food.
