What causes phlegm while running

The increase in sputum during running needs to be considered as a cause of respiratory tract irritation by airborne particulate matter, as well as a physiologic response to increased exercise over a short period of time.
1. Particulate matter irritation: Since the respiratory frequency and intensity of breathing increase significantly during running, some people may turn to mouth breathing.
If the air quality in the running environment is not good and there is a lot of suspended particulate matter, the particulate matter may enter the respiratory tract during the process of accelerated breathing, thus stimulating the respiratory mucosa and triggering an increase in sputum or coughing and other symptoms. This kind of increase in sputum is a normal physiological reaction and does not require special treatment.
2. Increase in exercise: Running is a gradual increase in the amount of consumption of sports, for the high demand for physical fitness. Therefore, if there is a lack of daily physical exercise, there will be different degrees of airway dryness, dyspnea or increased circulation during running.
During the acceleration of breathing, the airways will be stimulated, causing the surface mucosa to secrete phlegm, which will lead to excessive phlegm. At this time, it is recommended that you can appropriately slow down the running speed and relax the pressure on the airways by taking deep breaths.
If phlegm is secreted excessively during running, you can first reduce the exercise volume appropriately and relieve the symptoms of dry or constricted mucous membranes by regular hydration.
