Ku Ben Wan is effective in nourishing yin and tonifying qi, clearing the lungs and lowering fire, and works to treat both qi and yin deficiencies (deficiencies in both qi and yin fluids).
Ku Ben Wan, consists of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng and Radix et Rhizoma Dioscoreae. It is used for cough caused by deficiency of both qi and yin, with symptoms such as hot flushes (a burst of fever), cough, poor appetite (lack of appetite, reduced food intake), spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by sweating with slight movement), night sweating (abnormal sweating after falling asleep, sweating stops after waking up), pale tongue with thin white moss, and a weak pulse.
It should be noted that this medicine should be taken before meals; avoid greasy food; should not be taken by patients with colds; use with caution for those with weak spleen and stomach, vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal distension and loose stools (thin and unformed feces), and cough with excessive phlegm.
