Poria cocos is the dried rhizome of Sarsaparilla glabra of the lily family, which is sweet, light, and flat in nature, and is attributed to the liver and stomach meridians. This medicine has the effect of removing dampness, detoxifying, and facilitating the joints, and can be used for mercury poisoning as well as syphilis-induced tendon and bone pain and limb contracture, and is a key medicine for syphilis. It is often combined with Fangfeng, Job’s tears, papaya and other medicines to treat the contracture of limbs caused by mercury poisoning.
