How to determine the severity of thalassemia

Sedentary and mild thalassemia is generally mild, intermediate is moderate, and severe is severe.
1. Mild: Resting, mild α-bead protein production disorder anemia and resting, mild β-bead protein production disorder anemia. These two types of thalassemia are generally asymptomatic or only slightly anemic and do not require treatment.
2. Moderate: medium-sized α-pearl proteogenesis disorder anemia and intermediate β-pearl proteogenesis disorder anemia, which are often accompanied by jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, and moderate or mild anemia, and usually require medication, such as folic acid supplementation.
3. Severe: For some severe α-pearl protein production disorder anemia and severe β-pearl protein production disorder anemia and some β-complex type, it will cause severe anemia or even death, which is more serious.
Clinically, thalassemia is not strictly differentiated into light, medium and heavy, and is usually diagnosed comprehensively according to the specific type and extent of the condition. If diagnosed, it is important to communicate with the doctor in a timely manner, so as to avoid progression of the condition, which may lead to adverse consequences.
