If your baby fails the hearing screening in one ear, it may be a normal physiological phenomenon, or it may be due to congenital deafness, which requires a second screening before considering medication, hearing aids or surgery.
It is quite common for babies to fail the hearing screening in one ear. This may be due to the fact that one ear is not yet fully developed or that amniotic fluid is blocking the ear when the baby is newborn. Parents should not worry too much about this, as the baby can be rescreened after 42 days, where the baby’s hearing is usually normal.
If the re-screening is not normal, the baby may have congenital deafness in one ear. Congenital deafness can be categorized into hereditary deafness and non-hereditary deafness, which is mostly sensorineural deafness. It can be treated with vitamin B6 and other medications, cochlear implants and other surgeries, and hearing aids if necessary.
It is recommended that parents once found that the baby hearing screening in one ear did not pass after, timely medical improvement of relevant examinations, standardized treatment, medication should be used under the guidance of a doctor, do not blindly use drugs.
