Lamotrigine Effects and Side Effects

Lamotrigine is commonly used in the treatment of epileptic seizures, and common side effects are rash, irritability, headache, nausea and vomiting, and so on. 1.Lamotrigine effect: it is a sodium channel blocker, can also inhibit the release of pathological glutamate. It is used as an adjunctive treatment or stand-alone treatment for complex partial seizures in adults or children with epilepsy, adjunctive treatment for partial and generalized seizures that cannot be controlled by other antiepileptic drugs, and seizures in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. 2. Lamotrigine side effects (1) Headache, dizziness, somnolence, ataxia, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, diplopia, and rash are common and occur at dose-related rates. Drowsiness, headache, and even coma may occur with overdose. (2) Occasionally, anaphylactic reactions, facial skin edema, limb necrosis, abdominal distension, loss of appetite, weight loss, photosensitive dermatitis, and suicidal tendencies have been observed. (3) Rarely severe rash, angioneurotic edema. Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell syndrome) have been reported. Lamotrigine is a prescription drug and needs to be taken under medical supervision to avoid self-medication.
