Burns are a type of injury that we see frequently in our clinic, especially in children. These injuries used to be caused only by accidents in large factory production operations, but nowadays labor protection is so good that they are basically rare. And in everyday life, whether adults or children, such injuries can occur, we are how the fastest way to deal with burns to reduce re-injury? These five words to remember is good!
The skin, the largest organ of the body, provides the first level of protection to the body like a golden bell, and we can also react to external stimuli through it.
Once hurt by burns, people lose their golden bell, bacteria become invasive, leading to infection, human dehydration, loss of temperature, and also loss of self-protection mechanisms.
Five words of first aid for burns!
After having a basic understanding of burns, what should be done when burns occur? At this point, be sure to remember the “flush, take off, soak, cover, send” first aid for burns five words of advice.
I. Flush
The most urgent thing after a burn is only two words: cooling. If you don’t cool down the scalded area urgently, the original mild scald may become moderate, and the moderate may develop into severe. In addition, while cooling the scalded area, the capillaries of the cooling area will be contracted by the cold, which can play a role in reducing edema and pain relief.
At this point, the scalded area should be rinsed with clean, flowing cold water for about 30 minutes. When rushing, do not direct the faucet to the scalded part, it is best to rush in the wound side, so that the water flow to the scalded place, in order to prevent excessive pressure in the tap water pipe, causing secondary damage to the scalded place. The flowing cold water can quickly take away the local heat and reduce further thermal damage.
Second, off
In cold water, remove the clothing covering the surface of the wound, remember to be careful, do not forcefully peel off. If the clothes stick to the flesh, you can use scissors to cut. The scissors should be pointed upwards to avoid injury to the skin, especially in children. Avoid breaking the blisters.
III. Soak
Place the scalded area in cold water and soak continuously for 10 to 30 minutes to relieve pain and further disperse heat. If the child is scalded, the age is still relatively young, and the area of burns is large, need to pay attention to observe the child’s body temperature.
IV. Cover
After passing the above treatment, covering the wound with clean or sterile gauze and towel and fixing it can keep the wound clean and reduce infection.
If there is a blister, do not press it to break it to avoid causing infection. If the blister is not very large, it does not need to be picked. If the blister is larger than two centimeters in diameter, or if it is located in a place of frequent activity such as a joint or a place prone to friction, to avoid accidentally breaking the blister and causing a larger wound, use a sterile needle or cotton swab to puncture it, absorb the tissue fluid, disinfect with iodine, and cover with gauze. Be careful not to remove the epidermis on the blister to serve as a protective layer.
V. Send
Finally, the scalded person needs to be sent to a specialist hospital for treatment of burns as soon as possible.
First aid for burns five don’t!
1, do not ice
After the burn, the damaged skin has lost the protection of the epidermis, can not be directly iced to avoid frostbite.
2, do not smear salt water, toothpaste, sesame oil, soy sauce, etc.
Apply these media after burns will bring pain to the patient, but also easy to make the burn wound secondary infection, and hinder the medical staff to judge and deal with the injury.
3, do not immediately apply ointment
Applying ointment will allow the heat to wrap around the skin and continue to harm it. Immediately flush water to cool down, is the correct way to deal with.
4.Do not over-abrade and over-activate
Due to the imperfect structure and function of the scar epidermis, the epidermis is more susceptible to damage and excessive or activity may aggravate the damage.
5.Do not touch tobacco, alcohol and stimulating food
The slower the wound heals, the greater the chance of scarring in the future.
A special reminder that after the burn, do not apply soy sauce, vinegar, alkali, toothpaste or purple salve and other things to the wound, which not only can not reduce the injury, but will continue to stimulate the wound, deepen the degree of injury, increasing the chance of infection. At this point should go to the hospital as soon as possible, to the doctor first aid treatment!
