Can you touch a newborn’s head?

A newborn’s head can be touched, but care should be taken when doing so. It should be touched gently and softly, and the baby’s fontanel should not be pressed hard.
Newborns have a temporarily boneless area at the top of the head and at the occipital area, the top one is called fontanel and the occipital one is called posterior fontanel. The anterior fontanel gradually closes around 1 to 1.5 years after birth, while the posterior fontanel closes at birth in some newborns and may close around 6 to 8 weeks.
When the fontanel and posterior fontanel are not closed, there is no bone tissue covering this area, which may injure the brain tissue when it is damaged by external force, and may even affect the development of the baby. Therefore, you should be careful when touching the newborn’s head, and should not be too forceful, and please don’t press the fontanel of the baby too hard, so as not to cause damage to the newborn.
If the newborn appears abnormal, should go to the hospital in time to clarify the cause of the disease and treatment, so as not to delay the condition.
