Heart rate below 50, how to treat

Heart rates below 50 beats per minute can be treated with medication or pacemaker implantation depending on the cause.
Normal human heart rate at rest is 60~100 beats per minute, so when the heart rate is lower than 50 beats per minute, it belongs to bradycardia, which can be caused by sinus node lesions, some heart diseases such as congenital heart disease, complications after heart surgery, hypothyroidism, etc.; it can also be caused by taking medicines to treat arrhythmia, high blood pressure and other diseases.
For asymptomatic or mild symptoms, there is no need for special treatment. For symptomatic patients, atropine, salbutamol, isoprenaline and other medications can be used to elevate the heart rate under doctor’s supervision; in addition, pacemakers can be implanted to control the heart rate in patients with sinus node dysfunction.
If the low heart rate is secondary to other diseases, such as hypothyroidism, it is often necessary to treat the primary disease. For example, hypothyroidism can be treated with thyroxine tablets. If the bradycardia is caused by other medications, the medication can be adjusted by the doctor to relieve it.
It is recommended to consult a doctor if necessary to receive standardized treatment.
