What to do if you’re stuck with a fishbone

There are several ways to deal with a fishbone: coughing gently, removing the fishbone by yourself or with the help of others, or seeking medical help.
1. If the fishbone is small, shallow and relatively loose, try coughing gently to see if the fishbone can be dislodged under the force of vibration.
2. If the location is obvious, you can use chopsticks or other tools to press down on the base of the tongue to expose the fishbone as much as possible, and then remove the fishbone on your own with the help of others.
3. If the above methods can not be removed, it is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible to let the doctor use professional instruments such as laryngoscope, foreign body forceps to remove the fishbone.
Warm reminder: after being stuck by the fishbone should not be blindly swallowed, the fishbone is relatively sharp, blindly swallowing may cause pharyngeal or esophageal mucosal damage, bleeding and other symptoms. It is recommended to go to the ear, nose and throat department of the hospital as soon as possible, to clarify the location of the foreign body by the doctor to remove.
