How to stop the pain of periodontitis

Periodontitis is divided into aggressive periodontitis and chronic periodontitis. When aggressive periodontitis strikes, patients mainly present with widespread periodontal swelling and pain, and are advised to take oral pain medication or oral cephalosporin antibiotics, such as ornidazole, for periodontal pain relief. After the pain is relieved with medication for aggressive periodontitis, the patient is advised to undergo a full periodontal examination and to perform supragingival scaling and subgingival scraping. Many patients nowadays have periodontal disease, for which long-term follow-up is needed to allow the alveolar bone to be maintained at a constant level to avoid aggressive acute periodontal disease that can lead to extensive tooth loss.
