Gums suddenly swollen may be periodontal abscess, acute apical periodontitis submucosal abscess stage, acute gingival papillitis and other diseases, as follows.
1. Periodontal abscess: periodontitis development to the late stage of one of the accompanying lesions, for the periodontal pockets wall or deep periodontal connective tissue in the confined suppurative inflammation, acute periodontal abscess onset of sudden, in the gums to form a hemispherical swelling of the protrusion.
2. Acute apical periodontitis submucosal abscess stage: the pus reaches the submucosa, the swelling of the mucosa in the apical area is limited, showing a hemispherical bulge.
3. Acute gingival papillitis: mechanical or chemical stimulation of the gingival papilla, resulting in redness and swelling of the gingival papilla. Common irritating factors are food impaction, inappropriate use of toothpicks, too hard and too sharp food, the edges of bad restorations, overhangs of fillings, and poorly secured loose teeth.
There may be other reasons for sudden swelling of the gums, and it is advisable to visit the hospital for early professional treatment.
