Herbal Formula for Yin and Yang Deficiency

Formulas for treating deficiency of yin and yang include Dihuang Drink and Turtle and Deer Erxian Gum.
Clinical manifestations of deficiency of yin and yang include dizziness, lumbar and knee soreness (feeling of soreness and weakness in the lumbar region and knees), coldness (fear of cold, cold extremities), hot flashes (bursts of fever), night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep, sweating stops after waking up), and pale tongue and weak pulse, etc. The representative formulas include Di Huang Drinking Seed and Gu Gui De Er Xian Gum.
The composition of Di Huang Drink contains Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Radix Morinda Citri Reticulatae, Herba Cistanches, Ophiopogonis, Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, Calamus Calamus, Radix Cinnamomum Cassiae, Radix Poriae, Poria, and Polygala. It can tonify kidney yang and nourish kidney yin, resolve phlegm and open the orifices (opening the orifices of the heart and restoring the mind by removing phlegm and evil). This drug is mainly used for treating strong tongue and impotent feet, dry mouth, fear of cold, cold limbs, hot flashes and sweating, and sunken and weak pulse. It is contraindicated in patients with hyperactivity of Liver-Yang. Adverse reactions are not known.
The composition of Tortoise and Deer Erxian Gum has tortoise plate, antler, ginseng and wolfberry. It has the effect of nourishing yin and filling essence, tonifying the kidney and strengthening yang (the effect of tonifying the kidney and yang). It is suitable for soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, dizziness, hair withered and teeth fallen, spermatorrhea and impotence. It is not suitable for those with weak spleen and stomach. Adverse reactions are not clear.
