1.4.1, Women of childbearing age Lamotrigine is the drug of choice for idiopathic generalized epilepsy and symptomatic partial epilepsy in healthy women of childbearing age; levetiracetam is the drug of choice for generalized epilepsy; lamotrigine is the drug of choice for idiopathic generalized seizures and secondary partial seizures in healthy women of childbearing age who are planning to conceive and breastfeed. 1.4.2, Elderly Patients The drug of choice for the elderly without systemic disease other than epilepsy is lamotrigine and oxcarbazepine, while the drug of choice for those with other systemic disease is lamotrigine and levetiracetam. In school-aged children with epilepsy, the drug of choice is lamotrigine for generalized seizures and oxcarbazepine and lamotrigine for secondary partial seizures.
