Is surgery recommended for hypopharyngeal cancer

If a hypopharyngeal lesion is found on laryngoscopy, surgical treatment is usually recommended. However, if the tumor is more extensive, surgery is usually not recommended.

If there is pharyngeal discomfort or a foreign body sensation in the pharynx in the early stage, consult a doctor as soon as possible, and consider surgery if hypopharyngeal cancer is diagnosed. If hypopharyngeal lesions are found during laryngoscopy, such as lesions in the pyriform fossa, surgical treatment can be adopted under doctor’s suggestion.

If the patient’s condition has been delayed when he/she consults the doctor because of long-term discomfort in the pharynx, the vast majority of patients with hypopharyngeal carcinoma already have discomfort such as difficulty in swallowing when they consult the doctor, and most of them are in locally advanced stage. If the tumor has been involved in a wide range of areas by the time of discovery, and if it has already involved the posterior region of the ring and the conditions for surgery have been lost, it is not recommended to do surgical treatment.

Patients with hypopharyngeal cancer are recommended to consult regular hospitals in time, and doctors will decide whether to perform surgery or not according to their conditions and patients’ own conditions, and they are recommended to cooperate with doctors for active treatment in order to improve the prognosis and prolong the survival period.
