The principles of respiratory stimulant use are as follows: 1. Indications: Respiratory stimulants are commonly used in patients with respiratory failure whose central nervous system is inhibited leading to a decrease in pulmonary ventilation function, patients with respiratory failure due to poor pulmonary ventilation function and patients in the acute phase of cerebral hypoxia or cerebral edema with symptoms of recurrent convulsions should not be used to avoid aggravating the symptoms; 2. Keep the airway open: if the airway is obstructed, the use of respiratory stimulants will aggravate respiratory muscle fatigue and respiratory failure; 3. Respiratory muscles have a certain contraction force: better therapeutic effects can be obtained; 4. Do not stop the drug abruptly: abruptly stopping the drug will lead to respiratory depression, rebound and aggravate the symptoms of respiratory failure.
