What are the pathologic types of esophageal cancer?

Pathologic typing of esophageal cancer includes pathomorphologic typing and histologic typing. 1. Pathomorphologic typing: esophageal cancer in the early stage can be classified into erosive, papillary, plaque and latent type according to its pathologic morphology; while esophageal cancer in the progressive stage, i.e., middle and late esophageal cancer, can be classified into ulcerative, medullary, intraluminal, and retractile types. 2. Pathohistological classification: according to WHO classification of digestive system tumors, esophageal cancer can be classified into squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, neuroendocrine tumors, mixed neuroendocrine-nonneuroendocrine carcinoma and other different types. Pathologic typing of esophageal cancer can provide a certain basis for the next step of treatment, which is of great significance and importance to the prognosis of the disease. Regardless of which type of esophageal cancer an individual is suffering from, it is recommended that he/she should consult a doctor in time and have standardized treatment under the guidance of a professional doctor.
