Peritoneal metastasis of bowel cancer usually does not need total peritoneal resection.
Peritoneal metastasis of bowel cancer mostly occurs in advanced stage, and according to the size of metastasis, it can be classified into limited metastasis and extensive metastasis. Limited metastasis, that is, metastasis in localized peritoneum, is relatively mild, and if the patient’s body permits it, the metastatic lesion can be locally resected through surgery, so as to control the condition.
In case of extensive metastasis, because the area is large, it is not suitable for surgery, and total peritoneal resection is not recommended. Most of the patients are treated with radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and other comprehensive conservative programs, and some of the patients can achieve long-term survival after active treatment.
After active treatment, some patients can achieve long-term survival. It is recommended to consult the doctor as soon as possible for peritoneal metastasis of intestinal cancer and carry out standardized treatment under the doctor’s guidance to prolong the survival and improve the prognosis.
