Photophobia of the eye can be caused by a number of things. If it is caused by corneal epithelial damage, it may heal on its own; if it is caused by corneal ulcers, it will not heal on its own.
The corneal tissue is rich in sensory nerve fibers, once the cornea is damaged, under bright light stimulation, the patient will have eye discomfort symptoms called photophobia. Photophobia can also be caused by pupil paralysis.
For mild corneal injuries, such as corneal epithelial abrasions, photophthalmitis, etc., photophobia is usually self-healing, as the corneal epithelium repairs itself, the symptoms are eliminated.
For serious corneal injuries, such as corneal penetrating injuries, corneal ulcers, etc., as well as photophobia caused by pupillary paralysis, it is impossible to heal on its own and requires prompt treatment.
Patients with photophobia should go to the ophthalmology department of a hospital in time for the doctor to identify the cause and take targeted treatment.
