Elderly women Xia and Guo were recently discharged from the Department of Urology. They were both admitted to the hospital because of stress incontinence, a disease that has plagued their lives for many years and caused them great inconvenience. Stress urinary incontinence is a common disease among women, mainly caused by the relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles, mainly manifested as involuntary urine flow when exerting force, such as sneezing, laughing, and even walking, walking up the stairs, carrying a basket of vegetables, etc. will “flow urine”, which seriously affects their quality of life. In 2001, after Professor Gou Xin returned from her training in France, she was the first to carry out a new technique for treating female urinary incontinence (TVT-O) in the southwest region, and now this technique has been commonly carried out in our hospital, and most physicians have mastered the procedure. While the TVT technique is a technique of suspending the urethra via a vaginal sling, TVT-O is performed through a closed hole and not through the anterior abdominal wall, avoiding possible damage to the urethra and bladder. A special puncture needle is used to pass through a small incision in the anterior vaginal wall around the pubic bone and through the closed hole. After adjusting the tension of the sling, the membrane on the surface of the sling is removed and the excess sling is cut off, then the small incision is closed and the procedure is finished. TVT-O is a further development of the original TVT for female stress urinary incontinence. It has the advantages of simpler surgical operation, higher safety, and no need for intraoperative cystoscopy. the successful implementation of the TVT-O technique has enabled our hospital to keep pace with advanced countries in the treatment of female urinary incontinence. ▪ Urology
