Amniotic fluid usually flows from the uterus down the vagina. Amniotic fluid is the fluid that fills the amniotic cavity during pregnancy. Most of it is water, but it also contains small amounts of minerals, fetal lipids and fetal epithelial cells, etc. Amniotic fluid is usually colorless and transparent. The main function of amniotic fluid is to protect the fetus and the mother. When the fetus is born at term, the amniotic fluid will flow out of the amniotic cavity of the uterus with the birth of the fetus. It is important to note that if there is an abnormal flow of amniotic fluid, i.e., it does not flow completely down the vagina during labor, but enters the mother’s circulation, it may trigger an amniotic fluid embolism, leading to very serious consequences. Care should be taken to actively observe the mother during labor, and if there is any discomfort, the doctor should be informed immediately and the appropriate treatment and therapy should be administered.
