Herbal formula for acne

Clinical treatment of acne is based on different types of evidence, such as loquat clear lung drink, Yin Chen Artemisia Tang, Er Chen Tang with Tao Hong Si Wu Tang and other prescriptions. Acne belongs to the category of acne in Chinese medicine, with lung heat and gastrointestinal dampness-heat as the main causes in the early stage, and phlegm stasis in the late stage. It can be divided into three types: wind-heat in the lung meridian, damp-heat in the stomach and intestines, and phlegm-dampness and stagnation.
1. Lung wind-heat syndrome: manifested as papules with red color, itching and pain, accompanied by dry mouth and other symptoms. Loquat Lung Clearing Drink is often used to remove wind and clear the lungs.
2. Damp-heat syndrome of the stomach and intestines: manifested as red, swollen and painful rashes, greasy skin on the face, chest and back, accompanied by bad breath and dry stools and other symptoms. Commonly used Artemisia capillaris soup, clearing heat and removing dampness and detoxification. However, the drugs in the formula are bitter and cold, easy to hurt the spleen and stomach, and rhubarb has the effect of attacking the lower part of the body, activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis, so it is forbidden for those who have weak spleen with scanty stools or diarrhea, and pregnant women.
3. Phlegm-dampness stagnation syndrome: manifested as dark red rash, mainly nodules and abscesses, which is difficult to be cured after a long time, accompanied by symptoms such as loss of appetite. Er Chen Tang combined with Tao Hong Si Wu Tang is often used to remove dampness, dissolve phlegm and activate blood circulation to disperse nodules. However, Er Chen Tang is dry in nature, so it is not recommended for people with symptoms of yin deficiency and blood deficiency, such as dry nose and throat.
