Is the radiotherapy procedure painful?

Radiotherapy, as an important means of local treatment, will not cause very obvious pain during the treatment process, because the main reaction is only in the place where radiotherapy acts, and the side effects caused through radiotherapy will not affect patients significantly after timely treatment, for example, in the process of radiation therapy for esophageal cancer, mild pain in eating or difficulty in swallowing may occur in the middle stage, considering the presence of esophageal inflammation and local edema, which is a normal reaction to radiotherapy. Most of the patients will not aggravate and can complete the radiotherapy process well. If the case reaches grade II, the patient may be given attention in the treatment and may be given anti-inflammatory treatment if necessary. If it gets to a grade III situation, topical pain medications may be added. The main thing is to avoid the occurrence of grade IV events. In most cases the reaction can be avoided to some extent, however, the patient should communicate with the doctor in time and not wait for the symptoms to worsen or reach a very serious level before reflecting, and the recovery time is relatively long after the seriousness.
