The pubic symphysis, is composed of the joint surface of the pubic bone on both sides, joined by the interpubic disc made up of fibrocartilage. There is often a cleft in the interpubic disc, in a sagittal position, which will be thicker and larger in women than in men, and is especially evident in pregnant women and menstruating mothers. Above and below the pubic symphysis, there is the suprapubic ligament and the pubic arch ligament that connect the two sides of the pubic bone, respectively, and the movement of the pubic symphysis is very minimal. However, during labor, the gap in the interpubic disk widens and is used to increase the diameter of the pelvis.
