Betalactam is the most commonly used beta-blocker in clinical practice. If your doctor recommends reducing or discontinuing the dosage, do not stop the drug abruptly, as sudden discontinuation can cause large fluctuations in blood pressure. Patients with coronary artery disease may experience sympathomimetic reactions if they suddenly stop using Betalac, leading to increased myocardial oxygen consumption and reflexive increase in heart rate, which may even induce angina pectoris or acute myocardial infarction and lead to sudden cardiac death. Therefore, betalactam should never be discontinued blindly. Once the physician agrees to discontinue betalactam, a gradual dose reduction strategy should be adopted. The entire discontinuation process should last at least 2 weeks. It is recommended that the dose of betalactam be reduced by half every 2-3 days and that the minimum dose be maintained for at least 4 days before discontinuation.
