Baby falls asleep and convulses

Baby’s convulsions during sleep may be caused by epilepsy, febrile convulsions, sleep jumping and infantile spasms. Family members need to promptly take their children to the hospital for relevant examinations to clarify the diagnosis and then treat them symptomatically. Common causes and treatments 1. Epilepsy: Nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy can have multiple recurrent seizures at night, presenting abnormal movements or behavior. It is usually treated with sodium phenytoin and phenobarbital as prescribed by the doctor. 2. Hyperthermic convulsions: A sudden rise in body temperature of the child leads to sudden convulsions, manifested as twitching of the limbs, clenching of the teeth, and loss of consciousness. Warm water baths are usually used to lower the body temperature. If the body temperature exceeds 38.5 ℃, oral ibuprofen suspension antipyretic drugs can be prescribed to reduce heat treatment; 3, sleep startle: manifested as a sudden and brief convulsion of one or both limbs during sleep, mainly due to the imperfect development of the nervous system, usually without special treatment. If it affects the baby’s rest or sleep, the baby can be properly wrapped in a sleeping bag, small package quilt, etc., to give the baby a sense of security when sleeping to relieve the symptoms; 4, infantile spasms: the child appears bowing, nodding, lightning-like spasms and other manifestations. It needs to be treated with drugs such as clonazepam and vitamin B6 under the guidance of professional doctors. For children who fail medication, surgical removal of the lesion can be considered. Avoid foods containing salicylates such as apricots and blueberries in general. And avoid foods with high lead content, such as puffed eggs, popcorn, etc.; 5. Calcium deficiency: If the child lacks calcium in the body, it can also lead to neuromuscular excitement and cause convulsions, often manifested as stiffness, pain and twitching of calf muscles at night. Vitamin D and calcium can be supplemented under the guidance of professional doctors to improve the symptoms. Note that because the baby’s neuromuscular system is not mature, there will be unconscious twitching, usually this phenomenon is short-lived, if the symptoms persist, parents must be alert.
