There are several causes of pain around the ear when pressed: the first one, diseases originating from the ear, such as pain around the ear induced by infections such as otitis externa, otitis media, foreign bodies in the external ear canal, cerumen embolism, and so on. The second kind, which may be a kind of secondary pain in the ear, mainly due to the inflammation in other parts of the body, may also cause pain around the ear, such as acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, peritonsillitis or peripheral abscess, which may cause radiating pain in the ear. In the third type, there may be no substantial inflammatory lesion, just a pain, and the test has no positive features; consider a neuropathic pain. The cause of neuropathic pain may also be triggered by lack of rest and sleep or fire.
