Sleeping less is not good for the physical and mental development of young children

Currently, about 1/4 of children have varying degrees of sleep problems. The “favorite” cell phone, computer and TV before bedtime is one of the main reasons that affects children’s sleep time and sleep quality. Sleep is a physiological phenomenon in which the cerebral cortex and subcortical centers are extensively inhibited. Sleep can preserve the energy of infants and young children, help the brain development of young children and memory enhancement, and can prevent the brain fatigue caused by excessive excitement of the nerve cells in the cerebral cortex of young children who have not reached perfection, which is conducive to the recovery of brain function. Modern science proves that the development of human intelligence is based on the material foundation of the brain, and the development of the brain is associated with the development of the human body. After a person is born, the brain develops very fast, and the brain of a 4-year-old child is equivalent to 80% of that of an adult, and from 6 to 7 years old is equivalent to 90% of that of an adult. There are 14 billion brain cells in the human brain, usually called brain nerve cells, and the brain activity is caused by the action of brain nerve cells, in addition, there are about 40 billion neuroglia specialized in supplying brain nerve nutrition and healing when the brain is injured. Sleep can also promote the synthesis of brain proteins. If a baby sleeps well, he will be in a better mood and more focused, all of which are important for him to receive more information about the outside world during the day. If the baby does not sleep well, the most obvious manifestation of the baby is that he is easily impatient, difficult to discipline, prone to tantrums, attention as well as alertness will be reduced, obviously such a baby is difficult to maintain a good state of learning during the day. In addition, the latest research shows that a good sleep is also an important guarantee for strengthening memory. Therefore, sleep for children is not simply a need for rest, but also a catalyst for physical development. Research confirms that deep sleep is closely related to memory processing, and that the brain must reconstruct memories before it can store them in order to strengthen creative thinking. If there is chronic sleep deprivation and insufficient rest, the brain’s ability to think creatively and process things will be affected. Sleep deprivation predisposes you to various diseases. Sleep is an important part of the body’s recovery, integration and memory consolidation. Frequent lack of sleep can lower immunity and resistance, which can seriously aggravate the original disease and induce other diseases, such as neurasthenia, colds, gastrointestinal diseases, etc., and may even induce sleep hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. Many people think that more sleep will make you fat, but our survey found that many young children who sleep less than 9 hours a day are four times more likely to become obese than children who get enough sleep. If you don’t get enough sleep as a child, you are likely to become obese and overweight during adolescence when you grow up. At the same time, obesity has become the cause of snoring in many children, and snoring can cause obstructive sleep apnea when it is serious, thus affecting sleep. At present, obstructive sleep apnea in children is the highest incidence of sleep disorders, reaching 5%. Many parents think that their children snoring is a sign of good sleep, which is actually a very big misunderstanding. In one clinic, I asked about the child’s sleep and the family told me that this child had a serious snoring condition. Many parents think that snoring is not a disease, but in fact this child was snoring to the point of apnea. If you sleep for a long time snoring and apnea, it will cause chronic lack of oxygen to the brain, which is not conducive to the healthy growth of your child. Sleep is an important part of the human organism recovery, integration and consolidation of memory, especially before the age of 2 is the baby’s brain development of the golden period, children’s brain cells are constantly developing and maturing, high-quality sleep helps them physical growth and intelligent development. The growth hormone necessary for children’s physical growth can only be secreted at a high level during sleep, and sufficient sleep is an important guarantee for children’s brain cell energy metabolism. Chronic sleep deprivation can cause significant damage to children’s learning memory. Although there is not enough evidence that chronic sleep deprivation directly affects IQ, it can be shown that the attention span and working memory of sleep deprived children are indeed affected. It is critical that children have a high quality of healthy sleep and develop good sleep habits. The most important characteristic of sleep in younger children is that it is very malleable and can easily change for the better or for the worse. Therefore, it is especially important for parents to help their children form good sleep habits during the nursing process. To make your child sleep better, you need to pay attention in the following areas: 1. Maintain a regular daily rest and relaxation schedule. Young children should maintain a consistent bedtime and wake up time every day, not weekdays and weekends, school and vacation time is completely different, which will make many children’s sleep significantly affected. 2. Arrange an appropriate pre-bedtime activity routine for your child. The usual bedtime routine includes calm, enjoyable activities such as bathing and telling stories to your child. These activities can be maintained throughout childhood. These activities should be done before your child goes to bed with the lights out. 3. Arrange a good bedroom environment for your child. The bedroom where your child sleeps should be comfortable, dark, a little cooler, and very quiet. A small lamp can be placed in the bedroom, but not a TV. 4. Have limits on what your child can do before going to sleep. Some children will keep making all kinds of demands to delay sleep in the process of going to sleep. This is when parents should have clear limits. For example, if you want to tell a story before bedtime, you must agree with your child on how many stories to tell beforehand, and you must keep this agreement. This prior limit cannot be waived because of the child’s noise, otherwise the child is likely to have difficulty falling asleep and delayed sleep.
