Can a perineal fistula be defecated from the vagina?

If a vaginorectal fistula occurs, feces may pass from the rectum through the fistula directly into the vagina, and vaginal defecation may occur. In women, the fistula may be caused by congenital or acquired factors. If a vaginorectal fistula in the perineum occurs, the contents of the intestines may enter the vagina through the fistula, and therefore fecal discharge from the vagina may occur. Perineal fistula in women may be caused by congenital developmental abnormalities, where the patient develops an abnormal passage between the rectum and the vagina, or it may be the result of an acquired infection of the perineal area, where the fistula is formed after an abscess breaks down. Either way, the patient found this situation need to be timely treatment, so as not to cause more serious consequences.
