There is no best method for advanced bone metastasis of esophageal cancer. Generally speaking, drug treatment, palliative radiotherapy, surgery and psychotherapy can be used to control tumor progression and reduce patients’ pain.
1. Drug treatment: Osteoclast infiltration is the main factor of bone pain caused by bone metastasis of esophageal cancer, which can be alleviated by using osteoclast inhibitors, such as bisphosphonates or desludizumab. In addition, active systemic chemotherapy is needed to control tumor progression.
2. Palliative radiotherapy: palliative radiotherapy can also be used for bone metastasis of advanced esophageal cancer, which can effectively and rapidly relieve bone pain and prevent pathological fracture.
3. Surgery: Surgery can be used to remove the tumor at the bone metastasis or inject bone cement to reduce the destruction of bone quality and prevent paraplegia.
4. Psychological treatment: family members should actively give psychological guidance to patients, so as to make them build up confidence in life, keep optimistic mentality and improve their overall quality of life.
