The pain in the chest after exercise is considered to be caused by respiratory muscle spasm, also known as forked breath. The main reason is that during strenuous activity, the skeletal muscles consume a huge amount of nutrients and blood, which can lead to transient ischemia and hypoxia in the muscles inside the abdominal cavity, such as the stomach or small intestine, and of course the diaphragm and intercostal muscles, leading to respiratory muscle spasms, which can cause pain in the chest and pain at the bilateral rib cage. Therefore, when the pain is obvious, one should stop the activity and try to breathe abdominally. One can massage the most obvious area of pain with one’s hands or slowly tap the obvious location of pain to relieve the respiratory muscle spasm.
