What to do if an 8mm stone is lodged in the ureter

If 8mm stone is stuck in ureter, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotripsy, holmium ureteral laser lithotripsy and so on are usually recommended. If the stone diameter is less than 6mm, and the surface is smooth, no urinary tract obstruction can choose conservative treatment, the stone diameter of 8mm is generally recommended extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is suitable for stones less than 2cm in the upper ureter, using high-energy shock waves to break down the stone, and then discharged with the urine. If extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy fails or is difficult to break down the stone, percutaneous nephrolithotripsy can be considered. If complicated by hydronephrosis, Holmium laser lithotripsy with ureteroscopy should be performed in time to unblock the obstruction and save kidney function. If the stone is stuck in the ureter and becomes uncomfortable, the patient should consult a doctor for further examination to identify the cause of the problem, and then undergo targeted treatment or therapy.
