Baihe is the dried tuber of Baihe, family Orchidaceae. It is bitter, astringent, sweet, slightly cold in nature, and belongs to the lung, stomach and liver meridians. It has the effects of astringency and hemostasis (treating bleeding conditions with astringent medicines), and subduing swellings and regenerating muscles. It is used for hemoptysis, hematemesis, traumatic bleeding, sores, swelling and poisoning, and cracked skin.
Baihe should not be used with aconite (Chuanwu, Caowu) and epiphyllum.
