Children with food stagnation (food that is indigestible and stagnates in the stomach) can take Xiao Ji Pills, Bao He Pills and Jian Spleen Tablets. The efficacy of the Pills is to eliminate food stagnation, remove fire and pass stool; the Pills are to eliminate food stagnation, guide stagnation and harmonize the stomach; and the Tablets are to strengthen the spleen and open the stomach (to improve appetite by strengthening the spleen). 1. Elimination of Accumulation Pill, composed of rhubarb, petunia seeds, hawthorn, hexagrams, malt, etc. It is used for treating accumulation of food due to food stagnation and heat. It is used in treating stagnation caused by food stagnation and heat, with symptoms such as anorexia, irritability, nausea and vomiting, thirst, distention and fullness in the epigastrium (abdomen), and dryness of stools. It should be used with caution for those with spleen deficiency and stagnation. 2. Baohe Pill is composed of hawthorn, hexagrams, lycopodium, malt, and hemixia. It is used for food accumulation and stagnation, distension and fullness in the epigastrium, belching and swallowing of acid (swallowing the acid in the stomach upward to the oropharynx), and not wanting to eat and drink, etc. It is not recommended for pregnant women; lactating women. Pregnant women should not take; lactating women and diabetics should be cautious. 3. Strengthening the spleen tablets, composed of Codonopsis pilosula, Citrus aurantium, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Malt, Atractylodes Macrocephala and so on. It is used for weak spleen and stomach, distension and fullness in the epigastric region, and loose stools with little food (thin and unformed feces). Caution should be exercised in cases of stomach pain, plumpness (distension and discomfort in the stomach) and diarrhea caused by internal dampness-heat.
