Hepatitis C virus is primarily transmitted through contaminated blood and blood products and is often referred to as “post-transfusion hepatitis”. However, many patients actually live with non-transfusion transmission. According to statistics, the transmission rate of chronic hepatitis C among spouses can be as high as 21%, which is significantly higher than that of other family members, and studies have shown that the hepatitis C virus infected between spouses is basically the same in terms of its ribonucleic acid (HCV RNA), and the sequence analysis of hepatitis C virus infected between spouses has confirmed that its homology is significantly higher than that of other populations. Therefore, hepatitis C virus can be transmitted through sexual intercourse. Jingjun An, Department of Infectious Diseases, First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University
