Temporomandibular joint popping is one of the most common symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder, according to the different situations of popping, divided into: 1, simple joint popping: at the beginning of mouth opening, at the end of mouth opening, at the beginning of mouth closing, at the end of mouth closing, the popping is generally crisp, a monosyllabic clicking sound, more common in temporomandibular joint disorder in the reversible joint disc anterior displacement, the joint disc has anterior displacement, but less displacement, more common in the joint of monosyllabic The more crisp popping sound, this situation is most easily cured; 2, broken sound: generally common at the end of mouth opening, the joint appears multi-syllable sound, or more than two syllables, or friction sound. It is more common in severe deformation of the joint disc, such as perforation and rupture of the joint disc, and is usually seen in irreducible anterior displacement of the joint disc, or perforation of the joint disc, or more severe deformation. This situation suggests that the joint function has reached a more serious state, suggesting that the joint has been organically altered, i.e., the internal structure of the joint has been broken or damaged by absorption, etc. Treatment is correspondingly more troublesome, and surgery may generally be considered; 3. Friction sounds: friction sounds are polysyllabic and sound like rubbing cellophane like rustling sounds. Usually considered degenerative changes in the joint, such as cartilage or bone destruction and absorption, resulting in rough joint surface, the joint in the activity of friction is more serious, will appear friction sounds. The treatment plan depends on the patient’s specific status, for example, if the patient has severe pain and restricted mouth opening, surgery may be considered. If the patient only has a friction sound and it is not accompanied by severe pain or restricted mouth opening, conservative treatment can be used, such as joint occlusion plates, or (dental) pads to protect the joint.
