If it is determined that the right lower abdomen is distended and painful due to pelvic inflammatory disease, it is usually treated medically with antibiotics. After proper antibiotic treatment, most patients can recover completely. Some patients with more severe conditions and the presence of an abscess in the pelvis can also be treated surgically if antibiotics are not effective.
During the period of illness, the patient’s diet should ensure nutritional intake and a high calorie, high protein, high vitamin diet with a liquid or semi-liquid diet is recommended. Some patients who are not treated correctly and in a timely manner may have sequelae of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, which is often treated symptomatically with pain relief, or through herbal or physiotherapy.
