Precautions after gastroscopic biopsy

The precautions after gastroscopic biopsy are mainly aimed at two aspects: the wound caused by biopsy and the operation of gas injection when doing gastroscopy. During gastroscopy, the doctor needs to use special biopsy forceps to take small pieces of mucosal tissue, which will be observed by the pathologist under a microscope after special staining treatment and magnification of the tissue and cells of the mucosa. A certain volume and depth of tissue needs to be obtained for further observation when taking a biopsy. Therefore, the tissue removed with biopsy forceps is about 0.3 cm in diameter and deeper than the mucosal muscle layer to be a suitable specimen for histological examination. The mucosal biopsy will leave a small wound on the surface of the gastrointestinal mucosa, and a small amount of blood will ooze out at that time, which usually stops bleeding quickly and automatically. The biopsy wound heals rapidly and returns to its original state within a few days, leaving essentially no scarring. Because of the wound on the mucosal surface after biopsy, in addition, the gastroscopy and biopsy process will repeatedly inject gas, which will affect our stomach function to a certain extent, so gastroscopy and biopsy should still be carefully cared for afterwards. So do not overheat your diet after the biopsy, it is advisable to eat warm, cool food and drink water. Do not eat cold, sour or spicy food, eat a light diet without grease, and rest properly. Do not smoke and drink alcohol, all these harmful factors can affect the mucosal healing. Anticoagulants such as aspirin and clopidogrel need to be stopped before gastroscopy to prevent excessive bleeding after biopsy. After a mucosal biopsy is done during gastroscopy, no significant abnormalities need to be observed for 48 hours before resuming the application of anticoagulants. In addition, unlike our skin, the gastric mucosa has no nerve conduction pathways to locate pain, so no pain is produced and no special treatment is required. Therefore, gastroscopic biopsy is a relatively safe test, and it is important to pay attention before and after the test, but there is no need to be overly nervous.
