Running with a clattering sound in the ear may be associated with chronic diffuse otitis externa, foreign bodies in the external auditory canal and abnormal opening of the eustachian tube.
1. Chronic diffuse otitis externa: this disease can accumulate detached epithelial debris in the depth of the external auditory canal. When running, the epithelial debris in the ear canal oscillates, and the sound of clattering is often transmitted to the middle ear and is perceived.
2. Foreign bodies in the external auditory canal: Among the foreign bodies in the external auditory canal, the most common cause of clattering sound in the ear when running is human hair. This kind of foreign body is mostly after trimming hair and shedding hair at the ear screen, migrating to the ear and adhering to the tympanic membrane. Due to running vibration, hairs beat the eardrum and produce the above symptoms.
3. Abnormal opening of the Eustachian tube: this disease can be triggered by excessive chewing, mental overstress, autonomic nerve disorder, chronic inflammation, nasopharyngeal surgery, or after high-dose radiotherapy, as well as endocrine disorders and other diseases. When running, with faster and deeper breathing, it can trigger a clattering tinnitus sound caused by frequent opening and closing of the Eustachian tube.
When a clattering sound in the ears while running occurs, it is necessary to actively seek medical treatment and systematic examination to clarify the diagnosis.
