There are more tests that require stool as a specimen, and different tests have different time requirements. The fresher the sample for any clinical test, the better. It is generally considered that it can be sent within 2 hours, but preferably within 30 minutes. For tests related to stool routine, such as color, morphology, red blood cells, white blood cells, occult blood, parasites, stool culture, etc., test results can be performed within 1-2 hours of stool discharge. In addition, it should be noted that if the stool contains pus, blood and mucus, try to select the part of the pus, blood and mucus to send for testing. If the stool is watery, it should be held in a clean glass bottle or wax-coated carton to be sent for testing. Do not take drugs containing barium 2 weeks before the stool test, and do not take large amounts of vitamin C tablets. 1-2 days before the test, do not eat food containing animal blood, such as pig’s blood, and take care that the stool is not contaminated.
