Stir-fried Rafflesia, the fried product of the traditional Chinese medicine Rafflesia, has the effects of eliminating food stagnation (digesting stagnant food), lowering qi and resolving phlegm, and is used in treating food stagnation (food that has been indigested and stagnated in the stomach) that does not dissolve, epigastric (abdominal) distension, and phlegm and salivary congestion (abnormal phlegm and excessive production of saliva). Rafflesia comes from the dried mature seeds of radish of the family Cruciferae. Stir-fried Rafflesia is made from raw Rafflesia seeds until slightly bulging and dark yellow in color on the cross-section. It is used in combining with Hawthorn, Shenqu, Chenpi, etc. to enhance the power of eliminating food and harmonizing the middle; it is also used in lowering qi and eliminating phlegm, often used in combining with Bai Zhi Zi Zi and Zi Su Zi. Note that this product is pungent, dispersing and exhausting, and should not be used with ginseng if there is deficiency of qi, or if there is no food stagnation or phlegm stagnation; it should not be used with Panax ginseng.
