The same is true for treating cancer, only by eliminating as many tumors as possible is it possible to save life. The main reason why surgery is the most effective treatment for solid tumors is that it can destroy a large amount of tumor tissues in a short time and greatly reduce the tumor load. Surgical resection has the potential to cure cancer because fewer cancer cells have spread to distant sites in the early stages, and surgery may completely remove them. Clinical data shows that the smaller the tumor is, the better the result for the same resection. However, as the tumor increases, the proportion of spread to distant places becomes more and more, the effect of local excision of tumor to achieve complete elimination becomes less and less. Taking small liver cancer as an example, the 5-year survival rates of different treatments are roughly: 60-80% for liver transplantation, 50-60% for hepatectomy, and 40-50% for radiofrequency ablation, and the difference between them may be mainly the difference in the amount of tumor eliminated. For this reason, for most cancers, “tumor elimination” is still the most important and basic way to treat cancer, especially for small tumors in early stage. The recurrence and metastasis are the characteristics of malignant tumors. Although early surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are highly successful in eliminating and shrinking tumors, for most cancers, they will face the problem of recurrence and metastasis. So simply eliminating tumors shows its limitation. Just like a national regime, due to the failure of internal affairs, the people’s grievances are boiling and the people are rising up, simple suppression and military strikes, although they may be temporarily effective, treat the symptoms but not the root cause. This is because the root cause of the people’s uprising is the corruption of the regime and the lack of livelihood of the people. If we do not pay attention to the root of the problem – reforming the dynastic system, attaching importance to education – implementing the policies of “rest and recuperation” and “light taxation”, we can restore the national strength. For cancer patients, one is the support for the body’s righteousness, that is, to improve the body’s resistance, in order to more effectively play the patient’s own strength against residual tumor cells. Secondly, in addition to further eliminating the residual tumor, we also need to adopt “transformation” to make it return to righteousness. Because tumor cells are expressed by mutation of our body’s own genes in long-term adverse internal environment. Through the patients’ abandonment of a series of bad habits and the application of Chinese medicine, the internal environment of the body is regulated and brought back to order. Then the environment of gene mutation is lost, the root cause of tumor cell expression is corrected, tumor cells are no longer expressed, and the body’s own positive energy may finally overcome the “evil energy” of cancer. At present, the concept and time of gene targeted therapy has achieved initial efficacy in treating tumors at the genetic level, showing us a bright future. However, there are still a series of problems that need to be solved. Cancer is a dynamic process caused by multiple factors, formed in multiple stages and involving multiple genes, which cannot be solved by one or one class of drugs for one bacterium like the treatment of tuberculosis. In the future, the comprehensive treatment of cancer may focus on the model of “tumor elimination + remodeling/modification of the residual cancer”. Looking into the 21st century, “adjusting the body” and “regulating the residual cancer” may be the key ways to overcome cancer. Taking advantage of the holistic concept of Chinese medicine, the use of Chinese herbal medicine to “adjust the body” and “change the residual cancer” will gradually be accepted by most doctors and patients.
