The formula Lily Soup, which is found in the “Songs and Compendium of Seasonal Formulas”, is effective in nourishing yin, clearing the heart, and moving qi to relieve pain (by regulating the body’s qi mechanism to alleviate pain).
Lily Soup consists of two herbs, Lily and Wu Yao, in which Lily can nourish yin and moisten the lungs, calm the spirit and clear the heart, while Wu Yao can move qi to relieve pain and warm the kidneys to disperse cold.
The combination of the two herbs can bring into play the efficacy of nourishing yin and clearing the heart, moving qi and relieving pain. It is suitable for heart pain caused by deficiency of yin in the body and blockage of qi, distension and pain in the epigastrium (abdomen) and heart and chest, insomnia and excessive dreaming, and so on.
If the strength of Lily Soup is light and the symptoms of chest paralysis (chest pain) are severe, it may need to be combined with other formulae, for example, if there is internal stasis of blood, it may be combined with Blood Palace and Blood Stasis Dispelling Soup; if there is deficiency of both qi and yin, it may also be combined with Pulse Sheng San.
The side effects of Hundred Lilies Tang are still unclear, patients should not self-medicate and should take it under the guidance of a doctor.
