Dandelion is used as dried whole herb, so dandelion root also has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxification (removing heat and toxicity from the body), subduing swellings and dispersing knots, and inducing diuresis to clear away dampness and gonorrhea. Dandelion root is contraindicated to be used in combination with spironolactone, aminopterin and other potassium-preserving and sodium-discharging drugs, which may lead to hyperkalemia; it is not suitable to be used in combination with alkaline drugs and sulfonamides. Dandelion root can also be used in the treatment of carbuncle furuncle (a skin disease, refers to the degree of serious furuncle), breast carbuncle internal carbuncle, heat drenching (burning and stinging pain is obvious when urinating, accompanied by urinary frequency and urgency, small abdominal traction discomfort) astringent pain, damp-heat jaundice and so on. Note that dandelion is recommended for clinical use. Excessive use of dandelion may lead to slow diarrhea. The efficacy of single Chinese medicine is limited, clinically it needs to be used with other Chinese medicines after identification by a Chinese medicine practitioner.
