Tuberculosis patients may be contagious when they eat with family members. Tuberculosis is categorized into pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis depending on the site of the disease. Pulmonary TB is mainly airborne. If a TB patient eats with his/her family members, accompanied by conversation or coughing or sneezing during the meal, Mycobacterium tuberculosis will be spread through airborne droplets, which may lead to infection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the family members. Therefore, if a TB patient eats with his family, he may be contagious. If a TB patient shares utensils with his family members, does not use communal chopsticks when holding food, etc., he may also spread Mycobacterium tuberculosis through saliva, greatly increasing the chances of his family members being infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. After primary tuberculosis infection, tuberculosis bacilli can spread to the whole body, which can involve the lungs, pleura and organs outside the lungs. Common types of extrapulmonary tuberculosis include intestinal tuberculosis, lymphatic tuberculosis, etc. Simple extrapulmonary tuberculosis is not generally transmitted through the respiratory tract. Tuberculosis patients are best not to eat with family members, try to eat alone at home, outside of the meal time to insist on wearing a mask, good home protection, so as not to spread tuberculosis to family members.
