The treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis by manual method, acupuncture, and laser irradiation has good recent efficacy; this non-surgical treatment method did not change the size of the lumbar spinal canal, but the clinical symptoms and signs improved significantly, indicating that the symptoms and signs of lumbar spinal stenosis are not mainly caused by mechanical compression, but by lumbar spine instability, local soft tissue spasm, and blood flow disorders. Therefore, the choice of treatment method should be based mainly on clinical symptoms and signs, but not on imaging changes. Non-surgical treatment should be the first choice for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. Surgical treatment should be considered only when non-surgical treatment is ineffective.
