Why are thyroid masses

Thyroid masses generally appear on ultrasound as thyroid nodules or areas of abnormal echogenicity. Depending on the ultrasound echo, they can be classified as hyperechoic nodules, hypoechoic nodules, and moderate echogenic nodules. Common causes include: cysts, nodular goiter, thyroid cancer, thyroid metastases from other tumors, and inflammation of the thyroid gland. It needs to be analyzed in conjunction with other laboratory tests and, if necessary, a thyroid puncture to clarify the nature. Thyroid mass refers to a goiter, which is commonly seen after an infectious disease, where the local inflammatory response leads to increased secretion of local tissue fluid, or even local fibrosis at a later stage, which can easily lead to a goiter.
