Can advanced laryngeal cancer be cured?

Clinically, laryngeal cancer in advanced stage is very difficult to be cured. Laryngeal cancer is a malignant tumor occurring in the larynx, which can be divided into supraglottis, glottis and subglottis according to the different parts of the tumor, and glottis is easy to be detected in the early stage, and the early symptoms are the change of voice, such as hoarseness and weakness. Laryngeal cancer is a malignant tumor of head and neck that progresses relatively fast in clinic. At the advanced stage of laryngeal cancer, most of the cancer cells have already spread and metastasized, which is very difficult to be cured at this time. In general, advanced laryngeal cancer can be treated with radiotherapy, such as palliative radiotherapy, to improve the symptoms and prolong the life of patients. Clinical research shows that the 5-year survival rate of glottic laryngeal cancer is more than 90%, 65%~75% for supraglottic laryngeal cancer, and the worst for subglottic laryngeal cancer, which is about 40%. Therefore, when there are symptoms such as foreign body sensation, discomfort in swallowing, pain and hoarseness in the throat, one should seek medical examination in time for early diagnosis and treatment to avoid further development of the disease. It is suggested that patients with advanced laryngeal cancer actively cooperate with doctor’s treatment, which can prolong the survival time, meanwhile, family members should be patient and guided in daily life, so as to make patients keep optimistic mood and improve the quality of survival.
