Common problems after laparoscopic surgery

    1. Why is there pain even after laparoscopic surgery? Compared with traditional open surgery, laparoscopic surgery is significantly less painful after surgery, but not at all. The pain after laparoscopic surgery is mainly found in the small wound and both shoulders. The pain in the shoulders is due to CO2 stimulation of the diaphragm during surgery and is often mild and can be relieved with the administration of analgesic medication. Wound pain is also often mild and can be relieved with the same analgesic medication. Generally, the pain will gradually decrease and disappear after 1-2 days after surgery. 2. Why is there swelling and petechiae in the wound after surgery? Although the laparoscopic incisions are small, there is still a possibility of small amount of subcutaneous bleeding and postoperative swelling and petechiae may occur. The swelling and ecchymosis may occur after surgery, but will usually resolve on its own as long as there is no bacterial infection. 3. Will there be scars after surgery? After the surgery, the wound will heal with a scratch-like scar, which will be pink at first and will be indistinguishable in most patients after a few months. 4.How do I treat the wound? The wound surface is covered with a sterile dressing after surgery and the dressing will be changed by the physician before discharge. If the dressing is contaminated or soaked with wound exudate, it will need to be changed immediately until two days after the stitches are removed. 5.When can I eat? What can I eat? If there is no nausea, vomiting and other digestive reactions after 12 hours, you can eat normally. For intestinal surgery, the diet should be resumed gradually according to the doctor’s instructions. 6.Can I take a bath after surgery? You can take a bath after 48 hours of smooth recovery after surgery. It is recommended to take a shower instead of using a bath tub. Pay attention to the sterile waterproof dressing to cover the wound to avoid contamination, and change the wound medication after bathing if necessary. 7.What should I do if the wound is oozing wet? If a small amount of colorless or yellowish or light blood exudate is seen after discharge, patients need not be nervous and only need to change the dressing. If the exudate is green or bloody especially if it is accompanied by wound pain, contact the surgeon immediately. 8.How do I know I have an infection after surgery? If there is still wound discomfort, fever and wound redness, swelling and pressure pain three days after surgery, it means that there is a wound infection and the surgeon should be contacted as soon as possible. 9. Can I move around after laparoscopic surgery? Patients should be active as soon as possible after the postoperative anesthesia reaction is over, which can reduce the incidence of postoperative pneumonia, thrombosis and abdominal adhesions, but avoid heavy physical activities and physical exercise for two weeks after surgery. 10.Why do I have diarrhea or constipation after surgery? Due to the change of living habits during hospitalization and the influence of surgery and anesthesia. Constipation and diarrhea may occur after surgery, but this change usually lasts for 1-2 days and will be relieved on its own. If there is no relief 3-4 days after surgery, or if the symptoms are severe, you should contact your surgeon. 11.Why do I have diarrhea or constipation after surgery?
